SOUNDSXP PRESENTS BAD FRIDAY!
Our inaugural festival at the Brixton Windmill on Good Friday and this one is shaping up to be a cracker.
Ticket price also includes food.
SHOPPING
Shopping are a three piece band based in London and tipped by SoundsXP for great things in 2014. If you like your music to be so jarring, angular and funky that The Slits and Gang of Four could consider adoption, then London’s post punkers Shopping are the band for you. Debut album Consumer Complaints is out now on Milk Records.
FLAMINGODS
Flamingods is a five piece multi-instrumental experimental band originally started by Kamal Rasool in late 2009 as a bedroom project. Their sound has been described as ethnic pop, with elements of noise, tribal and freaked folk. They use a number of percussion instruments, some of which were collected during Rasool’s travels to places like Tanzania and the Amazon. They are based in London and have gained an impressive reputation for their incendiary live shows. Debut album Sun is out now on Art is Hard Records.
JUST HANDSHAKES
Just Handshakes live in Leeds and play indie pop music. They’ve supported the likes of Mystery Jets, Veronica Falls, Shout Out Louds and Still Corners. They have also done a session for Marc Riley and received airplay from Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe. This Is Fake DIY said they were 'one of the freshest and most fascinating indie pop bands in a long while'. Debut album Say It is out now on Bleeding Gold.
THE GRAPHITE SET
The Graphite Set were that new band creating a stir at End of the Road festival last Summer with magnetic frontwoman Lily Buchanan channelling the fervent spirit of Patti Smith. Their recent single Grayson Perry was single of the week in Clash and caught the ears of Jarvis Cocker who featured them on his show on BBC 6 Music.
AMPLINE (US)
The last time Mike Montgomery was over in the UK he was touring with Kelley Deal (of Breeder’s fame) as R.Ring but now he’s back with Ampline. They make big rock along the lines of Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi, but mercifully minus a howling animal on the microphone.
WITCHING WAVES
Witching Waves have only recently birthed but have already soldered an effective, minimalist framework between female/male vocal interplay, binary drumming and a solo guitar conjuring the ghosts of underground 90s riot grrrl punk.
….and more acts yet to be confirmed!
