Descrição

Returning from a half decade hiatus one of Australia's most revered indie-rock bands make their Opera House debut with a specially expanded ensemble and new album Haven’s Dumb.

Proving the torchbearers of a timeless song-writing tradition led by Crowded House, The Go-Betweens and Paul Kelly, Augie March return after a five-year hiatus following the heights of 'One Crowded Hour' and its top-ten successor Watch Me Disappear – bringing their poetic lyricism, guitar-driven grandeur and new album Havens Dumb to a one-off Opera House debut performed with a specially expanded ensemble.

Garnering national treasure adulations akin to British contemporaries Elbow and New York's The National, the Melbourne-born quintet have evolved from their classic turn-of-the-century debut Sunset Studies to topping triple j's Hottest 100, winning the Australian Music Prize, and garnering six ARIA Award nominations for the platinum-selling Moo, You Bloody Choir (2006). Led by the evocative Australian narratives of frontman Glenn Richards, the group have transcended tightrope turns between mainstream and critical acclaim to soundtrack weddings and funerals alike, even garnering Johnny Depp as a fan in the process.

From their tear-shedding finale in '09 to a recent five-night stand in hometown Melbourne, Augie March have harnessed their most expansive album yet for a performance that journeys through their most intimate and cinematic moments, conjuring echoes of Dylan, Orbison and Lennon in heart-rending fashion. Joined by long-time alumni The Arnold Horns for an exclusive Concert Hall performance, Augie March will guide audiences through one of the most triumphant songbooks in recent pop folklore – unfolding a new chapter that sees the band cement their place in a pantheon of Australian classics.
