Biografia

A história do Coal Chamber começa em 94, em Los Angeles. Dez, Rayna, Meegs e Bug se juntam, formam a banda e começam a divulgar seu trabalho na localidade através de uma demo independente produzida por eles mesmos. De boca em boca a banda vai ganhando fãs e começam rolar shows em clubes de L.A. com o Whisky a Go-go e The Roxy. Após algum tempo fazendo esses shows, o Coal Chamber recebe uma proposta da Roadrunner Records. Dino Cazares, guitarrista do Fear Factory e o produtor Ross Robinson chamaram a atenção do agente da RR, Monte Conner, para a demo dessa banda chamada Coal Chamber. O agente fica impressionado com a agressividade da faixa “Loco” (primeira música da demo) e com o vocal sinistro de Dez.

Mas quando tudo estava bem, um problema surge. Segundo Dez: “Encontrei minha alma gêmea, mas ela não conseguia entrar num acordo em relação a horários e a pessoas com as quais eu trabalhava. Abandonei a banda por causa dela e fiquei fora por quase um semestre, sempre sentindo falta dela. Eu sentia a falta da música, dos shows, de estar com meus amigos e de fazer música com eles. Foi quando Meegs bateu na minha porta e disse: “Olha só, nenhum dos vocalistas se encaixaram na banda. Nós realmente tínhamos uma mágica, vamos tentar novamente e deixar o passado para trás”.

Com o retorno de Dez, a banda fecha contrato com o Roadrunner no final de 95 e assim começa a procura pela pessoa certa para capturar a essência do Coal Chamber em um CD. Um produtor. No final das contas a banda acabou arrumando não apenas um, mais 2 produtores: Jay Gordon e Jay Baumgardner.

    Devildriver differ in one big way...they are groove driven, whereas Coal Chamber focus on atmosphere. It is why I am always hesitant to compare the two. If Dez used all his vocal styles in Devildriver too, I'd likely be more of a fan of them. Digging Up the Corpses is still badass.

    "...He also states that he and the members of Coal Chamber are tossing around the possibility of a new album. Fafara states, “About a week ago, they [Coal Chamber] sent me some new tunes and said, ‘Hey, would you ever think about doing a new record? Here’s some new tunes.’ And they were absolutely killer.” This from an interview exactly 4 months ago, so let's. Anyways, gotta see them in June in Bochum, Germany, my GF just ordered the Tickets, good Girl she is, haha.
