I love post-rock, but '& Yet & Yet' was boring for me. What album of theirs might I like if I like pg.lost/This Will Destroy You/etc?

@Irgendwas90 - do NOT stop listening to them if your first impression is not all that good. It will all pay off in the end. They will be your favourite band!!

@Irgendwas90, it depends what songs you're listening to. I know if I would have heard some of their songs first I probably never would have gotten into them. I say start with "Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord is Dead", since that just happens to be my favorite (especially the final track).

Does this band need some kind of "accomodation-time"? First impression wasn't that good, any use for me in continue listening?

Do Make Say Think did it before everyone else, and they will do it after. So they aren't drastically evolving musically... does that matter when they are honing their craft so diligently and impressively? As long as they keep at it, I will be there, eager to hear more. Their latest was one of the best of their entire career, and anyone who says otherwise has his/her judgment sadly clouded by their own twisted expectations of What a Band Should be Doing. This is Do Make Say Think. They do what they do, and they do it absolutely gorgeously.

What people need to realise is these were one of the originals. They've been at this style of music for 15 years now.

I saw them in Vancouver the other night.....amazingly epic! They had some really cool stuff that they opened with (that's right they opened for themselves) and I was wondering if anyone knew what they've recorded that stuff under??

Not as keen on Other Truths as with past releases, although it's totally fucking awesome...Just not as uber-awesome..It's like they're older material has a kind of...Playful...I don't know how to describe it best, but it felt as if it was just guys tinkering and it got recorded, Other Turths is very polished....

The new album is brilliant. Was slightly disappointed by You, You're a History in Rust - just couldn't quite get into it, but Other Truths is so direct and upbeat, I'm finding it impossible not to like.

It is a pretty off-putting name - I had condemned the band prior to investigation for that reason actually. But I saw them last night here in Portland, OR, and they are actually very rad. While the name implies a stagnantly dying "indie dance pop" sound that we've all grown tired of, the music is totally rad and is of no genre of that sort. The reprised bass line to "Federicia" is one of the better I've heard in some time. Soaring guitars; masterful and tasteful bass (and percussion for that matter), with orchestration and horns that sit precisely in the right place. Good stuff. I might claim that this group is a formative component of an emerging genre, perhaps alongside local (more electronically oriented) counterpart "What's Up," et al.

their band name just makes me want to hate them without even listening to any of their music. [2]

OH MY GOD YES. I've just listened to "Do". My brain exploded. Where do I go next (besides listening to "Make", "Say", and "Think")?

AlexTheRedeemer: well, that post-rock about this are unorthodox songs with traditional rock instrumentation, which is the most common definition for post-rock. after all, post-rock comes in gazillion varieties; DMST is very similar with Toe - slightly jazzy, lightweight music, whereas there are bands emphasizing epic soundscapes - GY!BE with classical instruments and Mono with silly amounts of fuzz and delay. Then there are heavy, downtuned post-rock bands such as Red Sparowes and Russian Circles, math-rock influenced semi-electronic 65daysofstatic, etc. etc. the list goes on, like, forever.
