  • Four OCRemix Projects to look forward this 2009

    Mai 14 2009, 14h38 por Kadai

I know, we are on May, but even that, looking to the future and what kind of projects it has is a good idea, specially if it does looks promising.

On OCRemix forums one can find lots of open projects, here, I do list what I have find to be maybe the most interesting ones that can come up this year, or either, to have an eye on!

Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption --> Link

If you have either played FFIV, love the Music from the FF Series, or like Nobuo Uematsu (植松伸夫) works, this is a project you need to be following!

This project started more than a year ago, it will be composed of 47 tracks and is almost done (with just one track lasting), the release date is planned to be June with no given exact day (from what I know)

Personally, I'm kinda exited to know what this album with offer. I know, there is a preview page, but i do not want to listen to it once the project is finished.

Since the original tracks where done by Uematsu, my expectations are kinda high, and add to it that I have also listened to pretty good tracks from Japanese doujin re-mixers... I can't compare both worlds, but I'm awaiting for something very enjoyable at least.

Tracks that I'm awaiting to hear include:

Bookmark this one, we hope it does fill the expectations.

Mega Man 4 Remix Project --> Link

Rockman series is one of the most popular franchises from Capcom, and its music have been a favorite from those that played the games.

But lastly, in OCRemix the Rockman series have been passed almost on night, only being present with random remixes from random episodes of this series.

But that is why this one (along side with the next one) is somewhat important (specially if you like Rockman) because it does put on the map the series, again.

The project started officially in 2006, but lately it got revived again, and gladly it has some tracks done (or still being WIP) that I'm wishing to hear:

The music from this game is one of my favorites, so, I hope that this tribute fills my expectations.

Mega Man 9 Remix Project --> Link

Next, is the current project that started this year, while it may look kinda redundant to release a remix project about this game that had been already remixed by III already, it does look that not everyone was happy with that release, that is why this one does looks to be an interesting alternative.

The project has just like 36% percent done yet, but they have just finally released a somewhat of a Teaser with the WIP. I must say that I was awaiting a little more, but yet is early to judge the project for a promotional piece that maybe went wrong.

None the less, there are interesing remixers in the project, that include Blind and GeckoYamori, so, this may become in a -must follow-

BadAss: The Boss Themes Project --> Link

Now, finally something that can rock in more that a universe (literally), and it is because this project has its targets well defined: Boss Themes in a Dark, Agressive Remix.

I bet that the intention is to inspire fear to the listener, to make you remember that shivering that you felt with that boss that killed you merciless.

Rock people, Rock, the project have just started but I'm forward to looking it, specially because they have actually included the Gilgamesh battle theme there, and that is an extra point.

In other topic they used to have open, they had even listed Sephirot... but between him and Kefka battle theme, I prefer Kefka one (Omnious Star Mad Dance) because it is literally epic (and more because is an opera of your destruction)

Other themes that are on the list includes Wily, Bowser and Bison, from Rockman, Mario and Street Fighters series respectively.

    ---------------------------------------

Now that I have effectively stolen part of your time with this journal, be sure to do not miss the projects, and to give a look at OCRemix Projects Forum, because you can still find some surprises there.

Have a nice day, and happy scrobbling!
  • How mainstream you are?

    Mar 25 2009, 7h43 por Kadai

Surfing randomly on last.fm, I found an entry on KingMengHuo journal, what was talking about how to get a kind of mainstream index.

The way to get it is quite simple:

1.- List your top 20 artists and then get the total listeners for each one.
2.- Add up the total of listeners of all your 20 top artists, and get that value between 20, that will be your top mainstream index.
3.- Now, divide your top mainstream index between the total of listeners of Radiohead or Coldplay, who are the two most followed artist on last.fm (Remember, either choice will change your index)
4.- The result is your personal mainstream index, only multiply it for 100 to get it in percentage.

Here we are, the procedure for my top 20

    01 - 植松伸夫 - 159,461
    02 - Capcom Sound Team - 19,157

(*) Aclaration: For this artist, I'm taking the romanized total listeners plus me, instead of the one listed, because I'm the only one that prefers "エクセルシア" over "Excelsia", the romanized way.

    The Procedure
    ----------- Overal of Listeners: 552531
    ----------- Divided by 20: 27626.55
----------- Divided between listeners of Radiohead: 0.01390832448956166441
    ----------- Multiplied by 100: 1.39%

So, the procedure gives to me that I'm just 1.39% close to mainstream... just totally away from the mainstream!

I know that some may argue that there are several factors that may just change that value, and that is right, but this procedure just gives a quick snapshot about how mainstream you are.

    Have fun!
