Biografia

Laura Veirs cresceu em Colorado Springs, Colorado, onde ela costumava passar os verões acampando com a família, o que à inspirou em muitas composições. Veirs certa vez revelou que não escutava realmente músicas até os 20 anos de idade; ao ivés, ela apenas ouvia o que estava ao seu redor. Ela escutava folk, country, clássica e pop durante sua juventude.

Atendendo a universidade Carleton College na zona rural de Minnesota, Veirs uniu-se ao movimento punk feminista e eventualmente começou uma total feminina banda de punk chamada “Rair Kx!”. Laura estudou geologia e mandarim. Depois da faculdade, ele uniu-se à música folk e country. Sua primeira experiência como compositora foi durante uma expedição geológica na China, que ela trabalhou como tradutora. Ela estava melancólica e entrou de cabeça em escrever letras de músicas como uma forma de escape.

Ela lançou seu auto-intitulado álbum, Laura Veirs, gravado ao vivo que trazia apenas ela e um violão, em 1999. Desde então já fez 5 álbuns com o produtor Tucker Martine. 2003 marcou a estreia de Troubled by the Fire, um trabalho em equipe onde a artista compartilhou estúdio com artistas incríveis como Bill Frisell e o violinista Eyvind Kang. Assinou com Nonesuch Records e no ano seguinte lançou Carbon Glacier. Em agosto de 2005 lançou Year of Meteors. Ela colaborou com a The Decemberists em “Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)”, do álbum deles de 2006, The Crane Wife.

    @R-Mac, I've been a fan of Laura's music for a long time and been following her work since Saltbreakers. Obviously, the songs in this album are childish because it is indeed a cover album of folk songs for children. Although it's pretty cute and comes with Laura's incredible musical quality, it isn't as exciting as a new album with her own songs would be, with her usual mature lyrical content. Anyway, she's just in love with her little baby son, it's just a phase. I'm sure she'll come along with some new material of her own anytime soon. :)
