“Stairway to Heaven” é uma canção famosa da banda inglesa de rock Led Zeppelin. Composta pelo guitarrista Jimmy Page e pelo vocalista Robert Plant para o quarto álbum de estúdio da banda, Led Zeppelin IV. Está listada na posição 31 das 500 melhores músicas da história da revista Rolling Stone. Em 2000 ficou em 3º lugar na lista das “100 melhores canções de rock” feita pela VH1. É a canção mais requisitada nas estáções de rádio FM dos Estados Unidos, apesar de nunca ter sido lançada com single por lá. Em novembro de 2007, atráves de vendas por download para promover o lançamento do disco Mothership a canção alcançou a 37ª posição nas paradas da UK Singles. Foi eleito o melhor solo de guitarra de todos os tempos pela Guitar World.

Composição e lançamento
A gravação de “Stairway to Heaven” começou a ser desenvolvida em dezembro de 1970 no estúdio Basing Street da Island Records em Londres. A canção foi completada em 1971 quando Plant compôs a letra durante as gravações para Led Zeppelin IV em no estúdio Headley Grange em Hampshire. Page então voltou para os estúdios da Island para gravar seu solo de guitarra.

Os instrumentais da canção foram escritos por Page “por um longo período, a primeira parte veio quando esteve em “Bron-Yr-Aur” (uma residência em Gwynedd, País de Gales) uma noite”.

    Led Zep IV was not a live recording of any concert, so the clapping at the beginning of this clearly means that this is mislabeled. Thanks last.fm. And this isn't even that great a version at that.
