Biografia

Los Campesinos! are a seven piece indie pop band from Cardiff, Wales that formed in early 2006 at Cardiff University. Despite the band forming in Wales, none of its members are actually Welsh. They released their debut album, Hold on Now, Youngster…, in February 2008 and followed this up by releasing a record titled We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed, in October that year. Whilst many consider it to be an album due to its length, the band have always referred to it as a ‘record’ or EEP (Extended EP) due to contractual and artistic reasons. Their second official album, entitled Romance Is Boring, was released on February 1, 2010.

    I'm not someone who pays attention to lyrics that much, but I often pay attention to LC!'s lyrics and I've enjoyed them a lot since the first album, thus agreeing that Gareth is indeed a great lyricist, but I just couldn't be bothered with the lyrics from "Hello Sadness" because the melody failed to catch my attention. And a song can have the greatest lyrics ever, but if the melody fails to keep up with the quality, all that will be left is a poem, not a song. I should have said this while I was drunk, it would have felt much better.

    The focal point to "Hello Sadness" for me was the lyrics. They were superb. Gareth has already stated that their new album will contain the saddest lyrics he's ever written. There's also a quote from his Twitter suggesting the intentionality was to "make you cry". What I love about this band is the lyrics, always and forever, I think Gareth is one of the greatest lyricists I've ever heard. I tend to enjoy that 'sugar rush', which I feel is synonymous with a band's youthfulness, but "Hello Sadness" has grown on me tremendously.
