Biografia

MESHUGGAH é uma banda sueca de metal experimental, formada em 1987, na cidade de Umeå.
É conhecida pelo uso prolongado de passagens polimétricas, poliritmia, compassos de bateria complexos, andamentos estranhos, angulares, riffs de guitarra dissonantes, vocais rasgados e letras que possuem temáticas metafísicas, retratos de conflitos internos ao ser humano, questões exitenciais, caos, religião, entre outros.

A banda já foi considerada pela revista Rolling Stone como “uma das dez mais importantes bandas de heavy metal”, e por isso, já pode-se dizer que o Meshuggah tem o respeito e admiração por parte de fãs, músicos e imprensa.

A longa jornada da banda começou em 1989, quando foi lançado o seu primeiro EP em vinil (que não possuía título), e acabou ficando reconhecido como “Psykisk Testbild”. Foram comercializadas apenas mil cópias deste disco, e na época o Meshuggah era formado pelo vocalista e guitarrista Jens Kidman, o guitarrista Fredrik Thordendal e o baixista Peter Nordin.

Esta mesma formação, mais o baterista Tomas Haake, lançou o primeiro LP da banda, o auto-intitulado “Meshuggah”. Pela pequena quantidade de cópias prensadas, a banda no mesmo ano do lançamento do seu debut, lançou um novo álbum, “Contradictions Collapse” – este, melhor distribuído. Antes de lançar “Contradictions Collapse”, Kidman deixou de lado a guitarra e investiu-se somente como vocalista da banda, sendo adicionado um segundo guitarrista: Mårten Hagström. Dois EP’s foram lançados após o álbum, “None” e “Selfcaged”, ambos fora de catálogo.

    Fuck.... Meshuggah are honestly one of the most naunced and technical bands I have ever heard. There is just no way to really point out everything or explain how to listen to their work; I honestly find new shit every so often in their albums.

    So, after a long, long time, I finally got totally hooked on "Koloss". I mean, I always thought it was a very good album, but now it turns out it's one of their best, falling short only of the greatness of "Catch Thirtythree" and maybe "Nothing".
