Biografia

New Jersey, Estados Unidos (1977 – presente)

Misfits é uma banda de “Horror Punk” de New Jersey, formada em 1977. O nome da banda foi tirado do último filme de Marilyn Monroe. Consta na contra capa de seu primeiro album de agradecimento ao cast de filmagens.
Seus integrantes eram Glenn Danzig nos vocais e orgão (teclado), Jerry Caiafa no baixo e Manny na bateria, entrando mais tarde o irmão caçula de Caiafa na guitarra.

O primeiro trabalho, feito pela Blank Records não refletia as características de raiva e revolta da maioria dos discos de punk, mas tentavam chocar as pessoas com letras violentas e românticas ao mesmo tempo.
A música mais agressiva deste disco foi She, que falava sobre Patty Heart. Apesar dessa música ser pesada (para a época) não possuía guitarra. A banda chegou a ser comparada por algumas pessoas com a fase punk dos Doors.
De 1977 a 1981 praticamente só gravaram EP’s. Foi em 1982 que começaram a sair os álbuns e compilações da banda. Os Misfits possuem até hoje um fan clube fidelíssimo. Quem comprasse um disco da banda, ganharia um encarte com uma ficha cadastral, para poder se filiar ao fan-clube, ou apenas receber em casa gratuitamente bottons, adesivos, posters e fotos da banda.
Os discos eram prensados na maioria em 7” (polegadas), saindo também algumas vezes em 12”, sendo todos eles coloridos. Assim imitavam as tiragens de gravações antigas e satirizavam os discos de histórias infantis. Horror Business, por exemplo, foi feito em vinil amarelo.

    @Sathurnine: That is not how similar artists on Last.FM works. Artists are similar based on what the most artists people play that listen to Misfits, so unless Last.FM changed something I would think that Danzig would certainly be one of the first 5 similar artists!

    danzig was the only band that night who actually was worth anything. they came up and destroyed that poser award show.. and that is the truth. danzig's voice on last caress was stronger than any moment the new misfits have done.. ever... deal with it

    Caught Danzig and Doyle doing some Misfits tunes the other night at Golden Gods Awards. Doyle's still badass but I just don't think Danzig can pull off these songs anymore..

    Still afraid to listen to The Devil's Rain in fear I won't like it [2] wasn't too impressed with the new stuff when I saw them live. The art work looks damn amazing though.
