If you ask me, Marcberg has the best drums ever in rap. Let's take Ridin' Around and Scarface Nigga as examples - the first one contains a badass loop which, fortunately, isn't all licked out; Scarface Nigga contains a hard-hitting drum loop with a great combination of cymbals and some distortion and swing added. Not to mention Panic and Jungle Fever... Then there are songs like Raw Deal and Thugs Prayer which contain incredible drum loops already interpolated in the original sample!! Roc is definitely a genius both production and lyrics-wise. And I completely agree with you, MissBrooklyAnn, those plain loops, with only a soft snare and sub-pumped kicks from Reloaded really grow on you.

Reloaded has no drums at all except for a few tracks, I didn't like it at first but it grew on me heavily. The plain, yet cinematic loops are perfect for Roc's rhyme style and flow.

"music to ride around and mean mug people to " - the best description of marci's music i've come across

I remember being disappointed after listening to Marcberg. People were saying that it's the album of the year (2010) and I wasn't feeling it that much. It took me a long time, but damn I finally got around to Roc. I absolutely love Reloaded, same goes for Marcberg now. I love the grimy sound of both albums.

i doubt he would sound better with an "entertaining" flow. appreciate the images he paints with his words over those simple but great loops.

Take in the lyricism dude, when you focus on the words the beats work fine and you appreciate his style more.
