Biografia

Yeah. I mean he's left a band whose entire existence had become "la-la-la-meow-meow-meow" sections to concentrate on $W, meaning $W is now his outlet for la-la-la-meow-meow-meow. I am setting my expectations very low and if it somehow turns out better, great.

"If SW is still planning to do a concept album on serial killers then it would be hard to make a good retro album out of that without having some metal in it." Steven is too wimpy to do that kind of stuff nowadays. It's going to be another boring concept album about lonely horses (and other things), with lots of meandering flute solos and 'la-la-la-meow-meow-meow' sections. Mark my words.

You never know, its only the retro side of SW you hate (which is not all that retro imo). I would be surprised if all his future albums stay retro. He usually changes styles every 2 albums. If he did not change anymore then even I the No 1 Raven fan would get fed up soon enough. If SW is still planning to do a concept album on serial killers then it would be hard to make a good retro album out of that without having some metal in it. I predict the new album will be a mix of the Raven and something else, just like GfD was a mix of Insurgentes and retro. I also remember that you liked the first 4 min of one of his new songs? So there is hope.

I just hope it won't be another redundant retro album. That's all. I've got my expectations so low that SW could only suprise me now. But I've been in the same situation before The Raven and that ended up very bad, so...

Looks to be another concept album with him mentioning "story". Otherwise not much to get from this statement. Pretentious could mean anything from SW's wide range of styles, at least we know its not going to be a Blackfield like album lol.

“I won’t say too much about it now, just that it’s another project where the music, story, and visuals all work together, and that we’re trying to raise the bar again. Pretentious, and proudly so!” – SW

problem is he's constantly accelerating the production process so in a few years he'd technically be ripping off music that he hasn't even written yet. the death of muzak

stephe walton will soon transcend from ripping off king crimson and invent post-retro-prog which means he'll be ripping off his own music. screencap this guise.

Progressive rock has to be progressive. It must be based on new ideas and new combinations of sounds. There's no progress in making retro music. That's my point.

Progressive rock doesn't have to be original or experimental in order to sound good. There are bands like Druid (aka Yes copycats) and Triumvirat (ELP clones) who managed to write fresh, interesting music. Also Änglagård. The problem is that Stevie's recent stuff lacks inspiration. Most of the transitions in TRTRTS feel forced, and the melodies just aren't that memorable. Tracks like Luminol and The Watchmaker start off decently but they degenerate quickly into boring wankfests (like those pointless "la-la-la-do-do-do" sections). Stevie's at his best when he's just doing psychedelic rawk stuff, in my opinion. Staircase Infinities and Up The Downstair FTW

Anyway, isn't it funny how SW gradually turned against progressive music with his solo project and is now basically making anti-progressive music? It's like he started to hate anything that tries to be original, experimental and progressive. Almost like the punk movement in the 70s with all the hate against art/prog. Also he made sure to burn all the bridges that connected him to originality and progress by shutting down projects like Porcupine Tree, No-Man or IEM. The man's getting old I guess so all he wants now is recreating music from his childhood.
