Biografia

Oh, snap, I come back here and there's a whole whirlwind of idiocy. Anyway, I don't think The National's music is effective at all, so you are wrong. I think Ke$ha's farts are more effective than the National. And I'm not saying music is "better" with a proper technique, I'm saying it's correct. And it's not about being safe or promoting longevity, it's about BEING CORRECT. You wouldn't stick a clarinet in your butthole and try to play it, would you? Because that's about as poor of a technique as using incorrect breathing when singing. Music is a field of study, and if you use the wrong techniques, you're not going to be respected by the people in that field, just like in science or mathematics.

Trexacious, whether or not he uses "incorrect" or "horrid" vocal technique these guys have put out more effective music than you (or many artists) have, am I wrong? Please explain in pseudo-academic phrasing how music is "better" when a vocalist uses techniques that are deemed "safe" and promote "longevity" over being musically / emotionally effective and impactful? Music is not math and it is not science so let's not treat it as such.

Drake, you care too much. I'd probably take the trouble to point out your various instances of trolling if I cared as much as you. I'll just have to count on you EVENTUALLY comprehending your own shouts. Amazingly, as terrible as BH&R is, it's better than 90% of the shit you listen to. True story.

Well, I was comparing your mannerisms with a beloved television character's mannerisms. No ridicule. :) And you're right, you're not original. Anyway, I'm not criticizing his vocal "style," I'm criticizing his horrid technique. It's not weird breathing, it's incorrect breathing. A vocalist using wrong technique is like a surgeon making an incision using their non-dominant hand, it can only yield poor and sloppy results. Vocal technique is an actual area of academic study, I'm not just pulling stuff out of my ass. Also, you're saying opinions aren't credible criticisms? Aren't all criticisms generally opinions? If they weren't, every critique of something would be the exact same.

Rikardur, I'm a metalhead who thinks symphonic metal is the greatest genre ever, and I would generally never listen to "indie" music, but I genuinely like The National. (But yes, theatmosphere clearly meant "any fan" when he said "anyone") "If you want the same thing regurgitated time and time again go listen to Coldplay!" TBH I've never liked Parachutes much and I was really disappointed by Mylo Xyloto. It makes me sad that they'll probably never do anything like the Viva la Vida era again. :(

Also, Trex. "Matt's vocal style bothers me and he does a weird breathing thing" is just about as credible of a criticism as "I don't really like slower-indie bands", or "I personally can't relate to their lyrics, so they're obviously a pretty forgettable group."

@ Trixxy: are you ridiculing me for using the word "false"? That seems a little shallow and elementary, even for your sense of humor. I think you can do better. Unless you're really just scraping the bottom of the barrel, at this point. Would you have preferred "inexact"? Untrue? Bogus? Incorrect? Erroneous? Contrived? You pick. // I only up the frequency of your trolling in this shoutbox. As evident by my absence, you [both] continue to post here whether I rustle your jimmies or not. Real talk. // Regarding profiles - yours is certainly more... full. If you strive to flaunt an About Me that resembles an episode of Hoarders gone terrible wrong, then yes. "Infinitely more amazing." I'll take my boring, temporary placeholder. // I suppose I have hundreds of twins, as sporting Jane Doe in my avatar is hardly new or original. Unless you count my added illustration and edits to it. In which case it is original after all. Err.

Symphonic metal. Jesus. // What'd I miss, guys? I apologize for my absence from this shoutbox; I was out and about doing the whole "life" thing. It was fun. But now it's back to SRS BSNZS on the internet. Where do I even begin here? I guess I'll address shouts in the order they were received. // @ jargjohns: My reference to that banned user - which I clearly illustrated would differ from yourself - was to emphasize that moderators can (in fact) take action. Prior to that comment, you implied that moderators cannot and will not enforce authority on Last.fm. My shout was to clarify that as untrue. As far as trolling goes, I'd love to hear how my shout constitutes six separate accounts of it. The only thing I'm guilty of is derailing this shoutbox... from the otherwise slew of "great new album [#]", "AOTY", and "album > comparison" shouts. // I could look past her Muse plays if she stuck to their earlier stuff. But it's looked as though she's dabbled into BH&R quite a bit. Damn shame.

not that a band needs to make that drastic of a sound, but the national hasn't done anything to change their sound in a big way in 14 years; that's long enough... no reason for them to keep going at this point without seeming exhaustive
