A man who lived the songs he sang. There are few musicians you can say that about. Such honest, heartfelt, and beautiful writing.

'The Late Great...' is such a pure, simple and timeless record, it's the sort of thing that needs to be passed down through future generations.

Hey, some friends of mine are doing very well with their latest track right now. They're at #1 in the iTunes singer/songwriter charts and really want to hit to UK Top 40 if possible! You can check out both artists (Elliott Morris & Dancing Lotus) here on last.fm, but I recommend you youtube them as it will blow your mind. Anyway if you could purchase this track for only 79p and share the love to others and help the cause it would be much appreciated! Frank Turner, Andy McKee, Newton Faulkner, Dave McPherson, Seth Lakeman and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly already have, having played with the artists before, as well as Dale Campbell, Simon Bates, Tom Robinson and Adrian Lester! Cheers =) x http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/spend-some-time/id429484178?i=429484186

Only heard "Our Mother the Mountain", but it has some really good and quite depressive songs on it.

I love reading the comments from people that are just discovering Townes Van Zandt. It takes me back to that wonderful day. It was one of the best musical moments of my life. I just finished reading his biography, A Deeper Blue, and I highly recommend it. The late, great, Townes Van Zandt!

I'm trying to figure out why "Rake" isn't one of his top songs. Is it just me or is that song magnificent.

I can't believe that his work did not gain as much acclaim as others who put forth work of the same artistry that TVZ displays and has obviously mastered. I'm so sad that it has taken me this long just to hear about it, whereas names like Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash are said like they were the only greatest things in the folk rock/country rock community!
