I'm actually a little surprised As I Lay Dying and the Devil Wears Prada aren't in the top artists.

Underrated? REALLY? It's only like the most mainstream genre in alternative music!

@noo_dog - I agree man your interpretation sounds about right, I also agree that Melodic Metalcore best describes bands like August Burns Red, The Ghost Inside, For the Fallen Dreams, I The Breather, Hundredth, etc because they are all bands which are more focused on their hardcore influences but still play metalcore so term Melodic Metalcore suits, however bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Unearth, All That Remains, etc focus more prevalently on their metal influences and the term metalcore nicely sums up their sound.

noo_dog, tl;dr but from what i could extrapolate from that mighty chunk, i think you're correct.

I think melodic metalcore was originally used to refer to bands like KSE/ATR/Bullet that played with a glittery melodeath inspired sound that was very different to the previously existing metalcore which had a much stronger hardcore sound (ie. the stuff that evolved from metallic hardcore, like hatebreed, throwdown, bulldoze etc.) Eventually though, this 'melodic metalcore' became far more popular and people just started calling it metalcore. Furthermore they started giving other names to the aforementioned original metalcore bands like 'moshcore' and 'beatdown'. So recently this tag has been open to interpretation again, and people have started to use it for bands that cross melodic hardcore with metalcore. These include Counterparts, It Prevails, The Ghost Inside, For the Fallen Dreams, Hundredth, Farewell to Freeway etc.

metalcore seems to be too broad of a genre and i dont really like melodic metalcore as a tag. i wish there was a better name to separate your KSEs/Unearths/ATRs from the crowd

It Prevails, The Ghost Inside and some other similar bands mentioned below are rather melodic hardcore (with some metal and progressive influences) than melodic metalcore. This is one of few genre sites where top artist are representative. All of bands listed there are melodic metalcore in my opinion. Someone mentioned below that this is modern melodic death metal. This is somehow true because in my opinion swedish melodic death metal is main inspiration for melodic metalcore bands.

" 'True melodic metalcore imo is For the Fallen Dreams, The Ghost Inside, Parkway Drive, This Distance, and shit like that. The bands on the top are just generic metalcore' This is indeed correct, i don't know what this page is about. Try listening to the bands above, or: Counterparts, Heart In Hand, Hundredth or It Previals.
