v these tags are generated based on amount of people tagging them. As great and influential as Converge are, there's clearly more people tagging KSE, AILD and the like.

Mallcore isn't an insult though. I spent lots of time in malls as a teenager. So mallcore is an accurate description for my taste. Although I think it's more of a scene than a sound, kinda like grunge was. Pop punk, metalcore, deathcore, and some post hardcore all fall under the mallcore umbrella.

Hey I started a new group for music fanatics, the focus is going to be different than the ExMF and the frosty paradigm. It's a bit of an experiment but if a bunch of people get in it could be cool. Join if you are interested. I want this group to become a center for music discussion on Lastfm (even though it's metal centered, other genres are more than welcome to be discussed.) Cheers! http://www.last.fm/group/Unholy+Cult+of+the+Appraised+and+Damned

@Dawid09 I hope you know anything can be tagged as anything. If you were to look at a popular bands tags, it would feature them all in most popular vote. In a world where Suicide Silence is deathcore, their will be a group of idiots who will tag them as thrash metal, thus showing up on the Thrash Metal pages every so often.

"Hatebreed, madball and devildriver are tagged as metalcore, I think bands like BMTH, BMFV and most of others just do not deserve to share this tag with them." Hatebreed is okay, but Madball and Devildriver are trash for dudes who want to be perceived as tuff.

"It seems like a logical next step after prog deathcore runs it's course." Seems like it's nearing that at the moment (in terms of experimentation at least), I guess we'll see though. I find it unlikely any of these deviation 'core' genres are going to look back and really gravitate towards influences of anything pre-90's (although it would be fucking cool) but we'll see I guess. I always thought it would keep evolving, but since it became associated heavily with djent, it seems to have self labeled it as such and isn't evolving as it's own entitiy anymore; instead just a minor offshoot of djent.

I'm actually surprised no one ever tried their hand at jam metalcore. Lengthy improv breakdowns, mellower segments to break up songs, and a lot solos/guitar effects. Basically a band that utilizes the playing style of something like Widespread Panic or moe., but plays metalcore. It has real potential if done well.

"I can't think of a genre that more universially hated that this" That's a common, but false assumption. Aside from metal mainstays still releasing new albums, metalcore is probably the most commercially successful metal subgenre at the moment. At least when comparing the popularity of new metalcore bands with new bands in other metal subgenres. The reason it seems universally hated is because the metal purists and professional critics who despise it are a much more vocal group than the people who listen to it, so the hate is perceived as more widespread than it is..

I judge Tool for thinking their logo is Cool even though when I was younger I thought it said Fool.

    novembro 2013
  • xVictimOfADownx

The problem with death metal and metalcore fans is that they judge deathcore on the same terms as they judge death metal and metalcore even though deathcore is aesthetically worlds apart from their influences (especially nowadays, although overall closer to modern metalcore than death metal.) Death metal for me at least is far more brooding and is kind of a internal view of the world while deathcore is the exact opposite and is typically more focused on the 'hear and now' both musically & lyrically while death metal is more focused on the abstract/surreal. I mean death metal is by far and large much more negative and appeals to dwelling on negative feelings/thoughts to overcome hardships while deathcore is focused on what is positive to overcome negative things. Last but not least, death metal was focused at it's roots to making metal more extreme than anything before it and if you listen to early deathcore it was a mix and match of genres and not persistently focused on being extreme.

I am assuming that the reason death metal wasn't accepted in the metal community was mostly because of the extreme sound or they didn't know what to think. The only excuse i heard of not liking core bands (besides the whiny vocals in some that i seem to either not hear or i have been so lucky to not hear yet) was that it doesn't sound like traditional metal.

    novembro 2013
  • bobo9390

Yeah, I go to shows with a guy who's about 40 or so who is big into deathcore, but was also really involved in the death metal scene in the early 90s. He says until Cannibal Corpse got kinda sorta popular, death metal was really the odd man out genre to most metal fans. Not a lot of bands wanted to tour with death metal bands and stuff like that

    novembro 2013
  • spineshank155

I was always a loner too, so i didn't know all that stuff.

"You have to take in mind that it took a long time for death metal to be accepted in the metal community back in the day" Really? Wow, i guess 'the more you know' lol. I liked Death Metal from the start and i was interested in heavy metal primarily once upon a time. Though early Fear Factory albums made it easy for me to like death metal. Took me a while longer to like black metal but with Cradle of Filth being the only one i heard (which isn't even black metal) i wasn't that interested in that quite yet until later on.

  • bobo9390

Yeah, that analogy actually makes a lot of sense.

    novembro 2013
  • xVictimOfADownx

I bet deathcore will be more accepted in 10-15 years or so, it's really still in it's infant stages if you compare it to any other style of metal. You have to take in mind that it took a long time for death metal to be accepted in the metal community back in the day as well. Anyway, I agree with Cosiderables analogy there, very well put and quite true.

    novembro 2013
  • xVictimOfADownx

Ain't nothing wrong with modern metalcore/deathcore but I am a firm believer that people should at least be familiar with the roots of *insert genre*. One, because if you want to talk about the style of music but you don't even know the influences than you kind of don't have much of a well based-opinion. Two, people would probably be less trend based, I mean it seems like trends come and go all the time in the 2000's within a couple years compared to previous generations because they don't have that much staying power. Three, gives the potential to make new ideas because you have a foundation in what's been done before and what could actually be really new.

It's because not many Metalcore bands really shape what Punk is, as opposed to Hardcore bands like Black flag, Bad Brains and 7 Seconds. It's like listening to lil wayne but not listening to Biggie Smalls or Tupac...

    novembro 2013
  • bobo9390

Why do people treat liking metalcore and deathcore as being some sort of guilty pleasure, but liking hardcore is treated as practically a lifestyle? I feel when the metal inspired riffs and vocals are taken out of the mix, hardcore just gets boring to me aside from a few bands. I know hardcore came first, but that's a silly reason to put it on a pedestal.

  • bobo9390

Meh, I'm not too into that kind of pop punk. Too closely tied to real punk for my liking. New Found Glory, Every Avenue, blink 182 is the kinda stuff I like. Title Fight is awesome, but I really don't enjoy stuff like Basement. Takes itself too seriously. I like the cheery, sugary pop punk.

@Hayden Erra are extremely good, but I hate the cleans more than anything. So many deathcore bands try using cleans an utterly fail. However when metalcore bands like The Ghost Inside, All That Remains, A Skylit Drive (I love this band, I know everybody else hates them LOL), etc use them it is somehow enjoyable. Cleans do not turn me off, but when I'm listening to brutal shit I don't need Kevin Rudolf singing the chorus. Take NightShade and An Ocean Between Us for example.
