A year in music - Days 19 & 20

This is my top 365 tracks (as of January 3rd 2015, according to Last.FM charts). That means a song per day.

Day 19, (shared) 346. position: Iron Maiden - Ghost of the Navigator (from the album Brave New World)

I really got into Maiden as late as in early 2000. I was about 16 years old and my friend had played me some early Maiden. They were good, but I still preferred my Metallica and Guns N' Roses, which were pretty much the only bands that I really listened.

But then Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith rejoined the band and they hype around Maiden grew as they released Brave New World. The first single was Wicker Man and that really hit home with me. I bought the album and was hooked. I was now a Maiden-fan 100%.

Brave New World is one of the best Maiden albums of all time in my opinion. It sounds heavy and amazing, the songs are epic and long, but they do not drag (like some songs on their Blaze Bayley-era albums did, for example Angel and The Gambler). And Ghost of the Navigator is one my favourite tracks.

Day 20, (shared) 346. position: Metallica - Of Wolf And Man (from the album Metallica)

Watching the video above, I realize how much I miss Jason Newsted. Not that Robert Trujillo is bad or anything, he is actually pretty amazing. But yeah…

I think there is nothing left to say about Metallica, the album or the band, that hasn't already been said.

I'll just say, that this song is awesome and it's a shame it's not on the live set more often.
