Eschewing musical instruments and above all synthetic sounds, this French artist made an album almost entirely made out of thematically grouped concrete sounds. From everyday sounds to exotic animal sounds, various field recordings were turned into virtual musical instrument playing rythms, melodies and even basslines.
There are a few exceptions to this strict rule : kick & snare and a MIDI bassline were used in "Brosse a Danse" (Toothbrush dance music) and a turkish drum was used as spinal bone in the birds songs ("Wazo" & Greensleeves") and lastly orchestral samples were used in the pretentious rooster song ("le coq megalo"). All the rest is pure concrete pop.
"Toothbrush Fever" gathers tracks made by Naing Naing between 2000 and 2004, mostly in Myanmar (Burma) but also in France, Thailand and Japan. As its release was delayed in 2002, Naing Naing decided to add more tracks thus delaying ot more.
