Sobre mim

"Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes"
......Karl Marx

Thanks to all the friends I have made here.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your life's experiences.
Thanks for sharing and introducing me to wonderful, new music and for giving me so much joy.
I look forward to our continued friendship...♥

A youngish woman who loves it here at Last.fm, not only for the delicious music but because I never seem to get older. Thanks Last.fm. ;-)
Otherwise, I am normal and happy and vibrant and affectionate. I love life, laughter, reading, watching period movies (even some old black and white classics), cooking, intelligent debates and of course MUSIC. I have favourites in most genres, as is evident from my library.
My goal this year is to learn how to pronounce the ü in the German language...without having the teacher dying from laughter. :)

I didn't do so well with the ü last year but I will keep trying to the end. :p

Favourite quotes:

* Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.
~Marcus Aurelius

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your
religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your
teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been
handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis,
when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the
good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”
- Buddha

"There is not enough love and kindness in the world to give any of it away to imaginary beings." - Friederich Nietzsche

“Love is union with somebody, or something, outside oneself, under the condition of retaining the separateness and integrity of one's own self.”
~ Erich Fromm quote

Philosophy is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat.
Metaphysics is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn’t there.
Theology is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat that isn’t there and shouting “I found it!”

Sometimes I think that if I were going to sue the Catholic Church (RELIGION), it would be for denying me the natural “wonder” that I might have had for the world for almost forty years. That’s the worst thing that religion does, it quells the natural curiosity of human beings towards their surroundings. It’s a drug that makes you feel good in the short run, but makes you pay highest price, it takes your curiosity and awe away.
~Julia Sweeney

The difference between faith and insanity is that faith is the ability to hold firmly to a conclusion that is incompatible with the evidence whereas insanity is the ability to hold firmly to a conclusion that is incompatible with the evidence.
~William Harwood

***

A common argument for why religion and science are compatible is that there are scientists who believe in religion and religious people who believe in science. It's like saying that Catholicism and pedophilia are compatible because there are a lot of Catholic priests who are pedophiles.
~Dr. Jerry Coyne

When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion.
~Robert M. Pirsig

A remark generally hurts in proportion to its truth.
~Will Rogers

It's always been and always will be the same in the world: The horse does the work and the coachman is tipped. ~Author Unknown

"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil—that takes religion." .....Steven Weinberg

"While democracy must have its organizations and controls, its vital breath is individual liberty."
............Charles Evans Hughes: U.S. Supreme Court Member, May 1908.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty
......Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
