Concerts I Have Seen, Part IV

Not sure how it is that I haven't written about the concerts I have been to since 2007. I could swear that I wrote them up since then. Perhaps on another blog site? I have no idea, but I am going to try to update it from where I left off.

Last I said, I was in Florida and had gone to see Pinback with Jonas. Before we left Florida, Julie and I saw the reunion of Asia, with Alan Parsons Project opening. I don't think she cared for it, just as she doesn't care for Yes. Oh well. I thought it was great. It seemed like a lot of people were there for APP more than Asia, which I found odd.

In Sioux City, there weren't any concert venues, but they did have a great 4th of July celebration that brought in pretty well known artists. I wanted to go to see Mike Doughty, but before he played, we were introduced to an artist we still really enjoy, Lenka.

I drove to Omaha twice: once to see my favorite current band, Nada Surf along with Sea Wolf opening, and also Rogue Wave. Cannot recall who opened for them. Nada Surf I saw with Jonas and Rogue Wave I met up with David Carson. And I almost forgot that we ALL three got together to see Ted Leo & the Pharmacists! Great show, but he was opening for the band Against Me and we didn't care for them at all so we didn't stay.

I have been much more active in Atlanta. For starters, Julie, Mitchell, Max, and I had to work some of the concerts at Verizon Wireless Ampitheater to support the Pope Band, so I heard more so than saw bands like Animal Collective, Death Cab for Cutie, Crosby, Stills, & Nash….maybe even Band of Horses. The only show I actually sat in the ampitheater and watched without having to work was with Julie: Yes and Styx. She didn't like it and I kind of soured on seeing older acts as well.

The good news is before that show we did get to see Guster at the Tabernacle. I would return to the Tabernacle a year or so later with Dave Mundo to see Neutral Milk Hotel. I believe Elf Power opened for them as well.

I believe the only other show I saw with Julie was Elton John at Phillips Arena. I got free tickets. Crazy crowded, not the best seats, but now I can say I saw him.

Mundo and I hit up a variety of venues: Redd Kross at The Earl, Bob Mould at Terminal West, and Ash at Vinyl. I believe Ash was the first one of the bunch we saw, so that finally got it going after a lot of talk about seeing shows.

Dave is gone now, but I actually got to see some shows with the kids: Mitchell and I at The Fratellis at The Masquerade and Mitchell, Max (and friends), and I at The Loft for Jukebox the Ghost. Also saw Jukebox open for Guster a couple years earlier.

Other than that, I also saw Train perform a few songs outside Coca-Cola HQ and Julie and I saw the play "Mamma Mia", which is kind of like a concert, but not really.

What's in store? Don't know. A lot of shows coming I would love to see like Pete Yorn, Guster again, and The Features, who seem like they come a lot but I always miss it.
