The Troubles

Hi,
if I had to sum up last week in one word, I’d say sleepless. There was so much going on. The fact, that I managed to listen to quite a lot new music, is sort of a mystery to me. :P

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
> U2 : their latest album “Songs Of Innocence” is now fully released - with a few more tracks and demo/alternate versions of songs. I haven’t heard all of it yet, but the two bonus tracks are meh :/
> Björk : jubilation alert. Last Friday was Björk’s birthday and I celebrated it with a few of her greatest hits. And boy,
> Lene Marlin : flashback alert. Oh, “Playing My Game” is already ten years old, but that album has some haunting ballads. But “Another Day” also is worth a look back.
> Azealia Banks : (still kind of) new album alert. And “Broke With Expensive Taste” is a strong record, even for people, who are not the biggest hip-hop fans.
> Scissor Sisters : party tune research. :D

Stats!

Most played artists:
> One Direction : new album alert. I’ve read that there might have been some effort in the production phase. But the finished product feel so weak. Their third album “Midnight Memories” was way better, if you ask me.
> David Guetta : new album alert. And once again this DJ seems to handle silly club tunes and big feature artist very good. As a fan of catchy tunes I really can’t complain.
> Nickelback : new album alert. And yes, I’m trying to listen to music like this with an open mind. But “No Fixed Address” only has about three song, that I would consider okay. The rest can be forgotten.

Most played tracks:
> The Troubles (feat. Lykke Li) : some time has passed since I last heard to the new U2 album. But then I kind of rediscovered this song. And I think it’s really lovely.

News?
> The NFL announced who will entertain the viewers of the Super Bowl (XLIX) Halftime Show in 2015 - it’s Katy Perry. She already released a cola commercial for that.
> I think it’s very refreshing seeing an artist like Beyoncé not investing much in another glossy video but instead trying to keep it humble. Even though a song like “7/11” is not my cup of tea, I highly recommend watching the video.
> “Night Changes” by One Direction: mediocre song, mediocre video. But hey, those young fellows can flirt with cameras. :D
> If only the music of Conchita Wurst would be a little more original. Yes, the new video “Heroes” has strong visuals and a message… but damn, why does the music feel so… artificial/lifeless?
> One word for the new Hozier video “From Eden”: disappointing. Just a shitty story about love and crime.
> The American Music Awards of 2014 took place yesterday. And a network like ABC just can’t get enough of a-list artists. And most of them really delivered a show to remember. Much better than the recent MTV Europe Awards. Also the winners seemed to be chosen a bit more wisely. Highlights included Lorde and (yes) Taylor Swift. And who knew that Diana Ross is still alive? :P

New in the German charts:
Dangerous (feat. Sam Martin) : Well, he did it again. Just with the release of his new album, David Guetta has now a second number one song from it.
Walk : hm, nice song, nice video. Nice :D
Morgen : yuck, too much lens flare in the video. However, the music isn’t that bad.
