Ein Traum wird wahr, der ZZ Top Rockpalast-Gig in der Grugahalle Essen 1980 - der Grund, warum ich seit 30 Jahren in der ZZ Top Coverband Bluezz Bastardzz spiele - auf einer offiziellen DVD, erhältlich ab dem 16.10.2009 bei Amazon:

Die Frage, ob die den guten Radio-Stereoton vom WDR Hörfunk genommen oder den nicht so guten Fernseh-Monoton zu Dolby Digital 5.1 verwurstet haben, wurde am 12.10.2009 beantwortet: Der britische Vertrieb Eagle Rock hat sechs Videos auf seine YouTube-Seite hochgeladen, und zwar jeweils La Grange, Just got paid und Jesus just left Chicago von 1980 und von 2008.

Es ist also der Stereo-Radioton zu hören, womit sich diese DVD von den üblichen Bootlegs meilenweit unterscheidet, denn auch das Bild ist sagenhaft gut - für die damals mögliche Aufzeichungsqualität. Auf der zweiten DVD sind verschiedene Live-Auftritte der Europa-Tournee von 2008 dabei, die sich anscheinend nicht sehr von ihrer letzten "Live in Texas" DVD unterscheiden. Fazit: Unbedingt KAUFEN!

Übrigens: Die Rodgaus waren ja bekanntermaßen auch im Publikum und schwenkten ihr Plakat "Rodgau Monotones grüssen ZZ Top", was man besonders gut bei "La Grange" sehen kann:

"Double Down Live is a 2 DVD set from ZZ Top combining shows from 1980 and 2008. Disc one was filmed at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. Hot on the heels of their classic Degüello album (it features 9 of the 10 songs from it) the show finds ZZ Top before sequencers and synthesizers epitomising their lil ol blues band from Texas nickname. Complimented by tracks drawn predominantly from their Tres Hombres and Fandango! albums this is a true best of ZZ Top in the seventies.

Disc Two was shot during their European tour in 2008 and combines great live performances, interview clips and back stage footage to create the ultimate ZZ Top on the road movie. With nearly 30 years between the performances the two disc set gives a fascinating then and now insight into what has maintained the ZZ Top live phenomenon.
