2014...the year where I just couldn't get into music.

…was a great year for music. Alter Bridge released a killer album Fortress, not to the delight of Scott Stapp, who is apparently "homeless" now. So did Queens of the Stone Age with ...Like Clokwork, a much needed rock album. I rocked out a pair of great metal albums from Soilwork with The Living Infinite (proving a band that moved towards can go back to what made them great…can't say the same about In Flames) and Killswitch Engage with Disarm the Descent, while not as great as previous albums, it delivered a lot of great songs while not trying to aim for singles….the stuff that doomed All That Remains a couple years ago.

And of course, Daft Punk with Random Access Memories, an album that strayed me away from the dark side known as …feeling like a "reset" on the genre.

And of course there were several other noteworthy releases as well from Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold…hell, I even went into pop territory last year as well by checking out Justin Timberlake's new album…don't believe me? Check my library…it's there alright.

So with 2013 being good, 2014 should be a great year too, right? I mean, releases from Chevelle, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Rise Against…this sounds like it's going to be a good year. Plus Weezer ended up releasing a new album as well (I still have to give this a few more spins though).

And Chevelle's La Gargola was probably their best album in a while. Linkin Park's The Hunting Party was different than their past work and I liked it…but then comes The Black Market and Sonic Highways by Rise Against and Foo Fighters respectively that kind of…let me down. And then, I had no other idea what to listen to after that.

I just don't know why I stopped…there might have been some personal issues I had to deal with at home, but I still had the same amount of time as previous years. Same amount of time to check out a ton of stuff. Perhaps I was sticking to old bands that were past their prime…or maybe I was not willing to go deeper in genres, fearing it might be a waste of time if I did not like it. It also doesn't help I was checking some older albums by bands in my library which I didn't check out or listen to much. I dunno…any of the newer stuff just hasn't got my attention…or perhaps I wasn't paying too much attention.

I may not know what 2014's best album is for a long time…perhaps I need to keep listening and soon…something will grab my attention.
