Top 50 stuff #2

01. What's your favourite song by no.27? Jeff Buckey
Would have to be “Grace”. Love the grungy sound, love the emotional intensity, overall it’s a fantastic tune!

02. Do you own any album of no.8? Bob Dylan
Quite a few. Too many to list, Discogs says 15. Snap, looking on Discogs I realized I own “Saved!” but have not put it up there. That makes 16!

03. Do you think you might become a fan of no.33 in the future? Azure Ray
For many other artists in my top 50 that’d be a strange question to ask but for Azure Ray it fits sort of. I like “Drawing Down The Moon” a lot, their latest album sounded sweet as well but their older stuff never quite got me. Who knows, if I find a cheap copy of some older album I’ll get it and might like it. But “fan”? I don’t know…

04. How did you get into no.15? Nick Drake
That’s a story I probably share with thousands of others: The Volkswagen-commercial that had “Pink Moon” playing in the background. I must have been 10 or something back then but loved it and the song stuck with me. Some years later I asked for the album for my (think it was 13th) birthday and got it.

05. What was your first opinion about no.18? Two Gallants
I don’t remember the first song I heard, probably “Las Cruces Jail” or “Nothing To You” but it must’ve been a fantastic experience. It was the instrumentation of traditional American music coming together with the spirit and harshness of punk.

06. How long have you known and listened to artist no.9? Waxwing
“Records” is one of the earliest songs I remember. Lastfm says first scrobble was march 2009, seems alright. Had some songs on mixtapes before that though but not much earlier.

07. Do you wish to become a member of no.13? Slowdive
Not really. They’re all quite older than I am. I like their music but it’s not really what would satisfy me as a musician

08. What song of no. 28 pay your attention the most and makes that you can listen to others? Jaguar Love
I don’t really get the question. Does that mean which one annoys me that most and makes me wanna listen to something else? Then it would be: “Up All Night”. That one was a really weird pick for a single. Just listen to the intro ugh.

09. Is there any negative association with no.39? Talk Talk
I dig Talk Talk, it must’ve been the band I listened to most this past year. Some of their older, poppy stuff really isn’t my thing but I would not call it a negative association.

10. What's the most noticeable track of no.34 for you? Onelinedrawing
Shit, I’m quite surprised to find them in my top 50. Probably listened to them a lot years ago. “Engage” is a nice song, at times I still find myself humming it or singing it quitely.

11. Do you associate something that happened in the past with no.47? Johnny Whitney
Well, nothing special. After a show he was running the merch table and we had a little chat.

12. What is your fav song of artist's no.20 first album? Final Fantasy
“Better Than Worse”. Took some time to fully appreciate it but now I’m loving it!

13. What is the most characteristic for you in artist no.43? Ray LaMontagne
The soul. There’s so much soul in his songs, it’s hard to find white folks with that much spirit in their voice and music.

14. Who is the favourite member of no.6 in your opinion? Cursive
Tim Kasher. It’s easy to go with the singer but overall he’s just a fantastic and inspiring songwriter and person.

15. Is there a song by no.25 that makes you feel worst? M. Ward
“Transfiguration #2” is a downer. But “feel worst”? No.

16. What is your opinion about the frontman of no.24? Beastie Boys
There’s none. I think the BB are unique in being silly yet stylish. Just real cool dudes.

17. What do you think about no.37's fans? Conor Oberst
Girls. With corny journal-entries. Taking things too serious. All the time listening to the same songs/albums instead of appreciating all of his works. Maybe all of this has changed over the years but still this is how I picture the stereotypical Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst-Fan.

18. What was your reaction when you first time saw no.21's music video? Hefner
Well I them way before I ever bothered checking out a video. I think it was “I Took Her Love For Granted” with the naked guy running around. Or was it “Christian Girls”? I remember something with someone riding a bike. Not really a strong impression I guess.

19. What is the worst album of no.1 in your opinion? Bright Eyes
Boy, that’s so tought! If it counts as a regular studio album, I’ll say “A Christmas Album”. Just a handful of songs that really convince me.

20. What is the worst song of no.7? Tim Buckley
I know it’s all artsy and “ahead of its time” and shit but “Starsailor/The Healing Festival”.

21. Would you like to go to a no.31's concert? Tiny Vipers
This questionnaire is so weird. The artist is in my top 50, surely I would!

22. Why did you start listen to no.19? Bruce Springsteen
Everybody knows the Boss. And quite a lot even like him. So I thought I’d give him a real chance. I must have been around 14 and bought “Born in the USA” on vinyl at a flea market.

23. Is there a song by no.42 that makes you feel better? Son, Ambulance
Lets see…”Brown Park” is cheery and starts off a fantastic EP, yes, it gets me in a good mood.

24. How could you describe no.50's music? The Velvet Underground
Cool. Not as in “very good” but really, cool. It’s noisy, druggy, sloppy, you don’t know why but you like it.

25. What brings you to no.23? Leonard Cohen
My teenage affection for 60s singer-songwriters.

26. Why don't you listen to no.46 anymore to lift them up in stats? James Blake
That is a good question but does not fit my personal no. 46. I like James Blake a lot and am certain he will climb up the stats continiuously.

27. What is the lyric of no.2 that you remember the best? Rocky Votolato
Even though I know so many, nothing specific comes to mind. I like “I’m gonna start at the beginning. I’m gonna make something out of nothing.”

28. Is there a good memory you have involving no.16? The Kinks
Playing “Strangers” at a friends kitchen.

29. Do you know anyone in real life who listen to no.41? Boards Of Canada
Not really. I don’t really have techno-friends.

30. What's the maximum amount of money you would pay to see no.5 live? Patrick Wolf
Well…I’m not really anymore into Patrick Wolf. Still like his music though but if he was in town I honestly would not pay more than 30€.

31. Do you associate anyone you know with no.32? Why? The Rapture
Yes, actually I do. I have a friend who likes them as well, was jealous of me seeing them live and we danced to “House Of Jealous Lovers” on holidays. Good times.

32. Is there any song of no.17 that you can't stand? Björk
Again I pick a song that is probably quite progressive and artsy but “Ancestors” is just not really enjoyable for me.

33. What do you think about the name of no.48? The Locust
That is actually quite a sweet name I think, goes well with the damn nice logo!

34. What is the most unique in no.22? The Beach Boys
The harmonies I think. Those 50s pop music-harmony-vocals coming together with rock music and symphonic arrangements, that’s unique and brilliant.

35. What artist could be similar to no.40 in your opinion? Refused
At The Drive-In is usually connected to them. The Nation Of Ulysses As Well. To say something uncommon, I think “XTRMNR” by Primal Scream feels the same as “The Shape Of Punk To Come”, check it out. A bit more of electronics but the same danceable aggression.

36. What's the music video by no.14 you enjoy the most? The Blood Brothers
I’m really not into music videos. “Set Fire To The Face On Fire” I think, with them being all Godzilla-like in this cartboard-town.

37. What is the song of no.49 that you heard last? Now It’s Overhead
According to Lastfm its “Type A” and “Let Up”. I never listened much to their “Dark Light Daybreak”-album, maybe I should give it another spin soon.

38. What is your favourite lyric by no.10? Tocotronic
„Mein Ruin, das ist mein Ziel, Die Lieblingsrolle, die ich spiel. Mein Ruin ist mein Triumph, Empfindlichkeit und Unvernunft“

39. Does no.29 inspire you? the Stone Roses
Well not really. Musically, maybe, in any other way: no.

40. What would you change in no.35's music? Calexico
More horns maybe? Don’t overload it, just have it pop up more frequently.

41. Who is the worst member of no.12 in your opinion? The Good Life
The questions are still getting more weird. Noone.

42. Do you think no.44 is underrated or overrated? The Flying Burrito Brothers
I don’t know, they’re not that well known but get quite some recognition aside the mainstream media. To be honest, I like them but don’t think their music is mindblowing or anything. So I think their current spot between being over- and underrated, in between ignorance and praise is quite perfect.

43. Do you know anyone that hates no.38? Gram Parsons
No. There’s probably people around me who don’t like Country music but nobody specifically hates Gram Parsons.

44. Do you like no.45's style of clothing? The Faint
Nothing special here. I think I like that.

45. What was the first song of no.11 you've ever heard? Past Lives
“Beyond Gone”. Our love has grown cold over the last 2 years or so but boy did I love this song and this band!

46. Why your no 4 is on fourth place of your top artists and e.g. not higher? Primal Scream
Looking at it I think the spot is well deserved. It somehow even surprises me as I have not been listening to the for that long but just so much. Yup, spot no. 4 is perfect!

47. Do you find anything beautiful in any no.26's song? Tim Kasher
His description of domestic love-stories are beautiful, definetly. Just listen to “The Prodigal Husband”.

48. Does any lyric of no.30 describe you? Belle and Sebastian
I don’t think so. It’s mostly about teenage outsiders from what I know, that’s nothing I really relate to anymore.

49. Who is the most talented member of no.36? Beck
Oh come on.

50. What's your favourite album of no.3? My Bloody Valentine
„Loveless“. It’s my favorite album of all time. I’ve said so much about it already. Just incredible. Turned my perception of music upside down.
