Hey! I noticed you've been listening to The Knife's "Shaking the Habitual" recently. What did you think of it? Personally, I loved the album and how it stays true to its name seeing them take steps not many imagined them. I also like the overall raw & chaotic feeling of the album and the tribal beats which evoke Dead Can Dance in some ways.

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. There's a TON of excellent shows and things going on there. I'll give KEXP a listen! Have fun and rock on Prominence_la.

Yeah, it's true. There's something really special about good radio and good DJ's who become trusted "friends: on the air who introduce you to audio experiences. I'm definitely a happier camper when I'm plugged into the shows/DJ's on WFMU or some NPR- things like "New Sounds" or even the Sunday stuff like "This American Life."

Hey, I see how much you like radio, (and you hit the specialness of the format dead on). Give www.WFMU.org a listen. (They're out of Jersey City and broadcast to most of NYC, but also have stream onlinie) It's completely freeform, meaning the DJ's can design, curate, inhabit their slots any way they want and they're a pretty eclectic, sometimes weird, sometimes entertaining, sometimes ingenious bunch who are very passionate about what they do and are true radio-artists, it's listener supported too, and has been attached to anything College-wise for a couple of decades. It's very special institution and there's loads of great stuff to discover on their site as well..

Never made it to the Big Dipper show I'm afraid, had a friend's birthday to celebrate instead! So it was a pretty fun night anyhow.

    I always get a kick out of reading through your music writing ("memoirs" and Recommendation"). They are so full of energy and joy for sharing thoughts. Thanks. {I might give that new Edwin Collins a listen soon!}

i ALREADY have all of Bowie's cds (on the EMI/Virgin label). I'm just getting the Rykos and RCA cds of my 3 favorite Bowie albums. :P

i'll give it a few more listens, but if i still don't like it, I may trade it in @ Amoeba Records for store credit. Lately, i've been trying to track down Bowie's RCA label cds. Those were actually some of the very first that came out, when the cd format was introduced. The sound on those are supposed to be the best (or closest to the sound of the original vinyl) compared to the Ryko label issue cds and the EMI/Virgin issue cds. So far, I have all 3 "Station To Station" issues and you CAN hear the differences. Here's an interesting forum on the subject: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/david-bowie-cds-ryko-vs-virgin.10000/

That's great!! And since I value your opinion, can you honestly tell me what you think about Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica"? I listened to it for the first time a few weeks ago and I kind of hate it (or just can't get into it), even though I LOVE four of his other albums ("Safe As Milk", "Ice Cream for Crow", "Shiny Bat", "Doc @ the Radar Station"). I just think that particular one is very overrated. I dunno.. :\

You're listening to some Zappa today? I like "Hot Rats" the best, followed by "Freak Out". Hope you're doing well, Lee! :)

Sobre mim

Projects:
Soundscape Memoirs - My new, NEW home for my music musings.
The Lettered Muse - My semi-official portfolio of research papers.
The Playing Card RPG - Rules and developer's notes for a role-playing game of my own design.
Tactile Poetry - My poems and other writings of a literary nature.
3D Canvas - A Flickr photostream focused on my many paintings.

Upcoming project - About to start on my first proper story in years. Currently outlining profiles for goblins.

First thing's first: I'm not just an American, I'm a Georgian. Five months in Wales has taught me to appreciate this.

Second...I love music. No two ways around it. Anything that's got quality and/or originality works for me - though a wicked rhythm section helps. Also big into spelunking on Bandcamp and mining OverClocked ReMix. I could go into genres, but I don't listen for 'em - at any rate, see the tag cloud below. Big into albums, in general - I rarely ever play my library on shuffle.

I might also add that I'm a fair drummer. My "mentors" (drummers I study) include John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Stewart Copeland, and David Houghton (with Joe Jackson on Look Sharp!).

Also - I dance. And when I dance, hit the deck.

FOR POTENTIAL FRIENDS:
Finished second sweep. Those now in list are definite friends. Going to be a tad more selective with accepting friends from here on out. Please leave some intelligible, interesting shout if you're going to be a pal (that way I'll remember ya).

Here's what last.fm says I've listened to the most:
