Hey man, I saw your post on Sun Kil Moon's wall re Admiral Fell Promises' limited listening on last.fm. I hadn't seen that interview that you'd linked to, cheers for that. Throwing in my two cents worth other than Alesund, I think the album's depth and breadth of styles makes it quite overwhelming and so not as 'easy' to listen to as others. I've been listening to it since it was released and I know I've barely scratched its surface. Undoubtedly though its terrific, complicated, deep and personal; but not as accessible as the others (particularly the haunting echo-y vocals). You mentioned Pink Moon. Its interesting to compare the recording of that with Among the Leaves; both recorded in limited time with virtually single takes and little polishing. I think that is what I most love about them both: their rawness and un-polished sound. Anyway, was good to read somebody's shout that wasn't a single line of "I dont lik his voice" etc etc etc. Cheers.

Happy New Year to you also ! Yeah, I haven't listened to Nick Drake for a long time as I find his songs very sad. If by any chance you haven't heard the 'Shock Me' ep by RHP give that a listen too. 'Sundays and Holidays' is a beautiful but wasn't ever on an album so doesn't get as much love as it should.

I think you're right there, there isn't quite anything like Admiral Fell. I've started listening to some of the artists that Mark was influenced by on the album and although I enjoyed them I just wish there were vocals as well.

Yeah, most of my Nick Drake listening has taken place pre-last.fm, but there are a few releases of his I still haven't listened to. Will get on that ASAP.

I really enjoyed Among the Leaves. To me, it sounds like the loosest Sun Kil Moon record, and by far the most humorous. It's not my favorite Kozelek release, but it's still better than most things I hear. And you were a big fan, right?
