I love a lot of his works, but what has always stood out for me is the sixth part of the First Symphony. Besides having a great melody, the sung text, written by Scriabin himself, is a poetic masterpiece. Very happy to have russian as my native language to be able to understand it

Piano Sonatas 5-10 are some of the most beautiful and evocative pieces I have ever heard. It's insane that Scriabin came from a Romantic background, I guess many would even consider him a "Late-Romantic" composer. Though I guess these pieces were from the very early 20th century, around the time Schoenberg had just started experimenting in the fields of free-tonality. Either way, some of the best Western music ever written. They don't even feel like sonatas. The influence of classical form in these pieces is about as obvious as the influence of classical form in Cecil Taylor's compositions.

Just stalked your profile and noticed that you switched from mainstream music to classical only, how did you make the change?

“That Poème de l'extase? Put it on loud. His music sounds like I think - sometimes. Has that far-off cosmic itch. Divinely fouled up. All fire and air. The first time I heard it I played it over and over. (...) It was like a bath of ice, cocaine and rainbows. For weeks I went about in a trance. Something had happened to me. (...) Every time a thought seized me a little door would open inside my chest, and there, in this comfy little nest sat a bird, the sweetest, gentlest bird imaginable. 'Think it out!' he would chirp. 'Think it out to the end!' And I would, by God. Never any effort involved. Like an étude gliding off a glacier.“ Henry Miller, 1959.

I know I could probably do this research by myself, but it is much cooler to ask people nicely and get nice responses, so I'll ask: do you know where did Henry Miller write about this? Was it one of his novels or something else? I'm just finishing the Tropic Trilogy and he already seems like my favourite author

I want to like him, but he just doesn't click with me...which is strange since I love Chopin.

For me, Chopin and Scriabin are kindred spirits. Moreover, Scriabin's idiom is a world apart from that of Rachmaninoff.
