Dude thank you! End of evangelion is definitely a masterpiece lol. One of my friends says Katanagatari is his favorite anime, I'll have to check that one out soon. Family Night is sounding tight!

Hey there! I've seen you post in the cabs' shoutbox a bit and thought you'd be interested that Kunimitsu Takahashi (the guitarist of the cabs) has announced he is doing a solo project. His first single will be the opening theme song for the anime Tokyo Ghoul. I've done some quick translations of some articles and tweets here with information about the solo project and some comments from Kunimitsu: http://www.last.fm/user/Lazteuq/journal/2014/12/25/6cpbb5_%C3%B6sterreich_-_kunimitsu_takahashi_solo_project?success=1.

my brother is a romcom kind of guy (that's just a fucking funny sentence, thanks america) and he really enjoyed ippo. I would've put the show off for longer if it wasn't for his insistence. maybe maybe not coincidental anecdotal

the show is formulaic, technically 'monster of the week', as to say, boxer of the week. it starts to show its inner parts as its length weighs down on the show slightly. only the first series is essential, though like matters if you haven't watched any of it. hajime no ippo is a very straightforward and well-done coming of age story, with its main theme being 'what does it mean to be strong', and other youthful japanese ideologies such as, 'absolute discipline', 'never giving up', and 'fighting spirit.' though the themes are drowned out in the show's action, they remain subtly effective, thanks to a more emotive take on boxing. thoses focuses are ultimate clichés though, but ippo has the best and purest incarnation of each one of those things. whether or not they're interesting probably depends on your machismo. still, its appeal and quality I believe is undeniable. also this was practically a review, ure welcome

anyway you probably are above shounen and battle anime like every other gaijin, but if you aren't, or even if you are, you should watch HAJIME NO IPPO. it's also technically a sports show, though it's just a (well-done) setting, because it's a battle anime through and through (boxing is punching...). it has a likable cast and totally pegs its drama. it's not melodramatic or overwrought, it focuses more on making the show's 'antagonists' empathetic, so you rarely can fully support the main character and are aware of how difficult each step (pun sorry) of the way is.

I've been kind of reexamining my views on dubs. when I play games I put up with some awful shit (NIS america LOOOOOOL) and even if it's dual audio I go with the dubs. whenever I realize that, I listen to funimation again and I'm like, nope, it's still shit. though it's easy to explain, I feel an imaginary kinship with the games industry, so I'm into supporting localization efforts, but I can't force anything like that with the anime industry. not sure if it's simple cause of my priorities, or if anime just has a drastically smaller presence

The first 2 are just remakes of the series, the third one is a continuation of it. I've only seen the third one once but it was pretty cool especially if you're a fan.

Favorite Jap Math Rock band is definitely Sajjanu. As for post-rock, the only bad I have liked so far is WEG, but it isn't even that post-rocky. You have probably heard about them though, so I would recommend you Cheval de Frise (It's like Yowie, but with acoustic guitars), and Rich Woodson's Ellipsis (Same as Cheval, but with jazz instrumentation). Tell me if you liked those!
