If a lot of music is tagged as "seen live", it means that there's obviously a general demand for sharing the information of which bands you've seen live. It's not the taggers faults, "screwing up the calculations", but last.fm's, since they don't do anything to prevent it (i.e. creating a separate system for tagging whether bands have been seen live). Also, Entropy_ftw has a point.

Taking into account that pretty much every artist is tagged as "seen live", this tag doesn't actually "screw up the similar artist calculation". A simple example: I like Death Metal - now Last.fm compares my musical taste to two random bands (let's call them A and B) in order to present some new bands to me. Since both of them are tagged as "seen live", this tag doesn't help last.fm in determining whether I like A or B. So last.fm will just have to compare those other tags. And that's precisely how the system's supposed to work, isn't ist?

What if i start tagging stuff 'seen live' will that screw the person up that started this, because i've seen a lot of bands that aren't on this tag

"Although this tag has nothing to do with the musical genre of artists, it is considered unusual to tag composers (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, etc.) because they are not the performers. " ------------ I laughed hard at this, surely the more obvious reason would be because they've been dead for hundreds of years :D

I think the philosopher who wrote the message a bit further down here: "Every single fucking asshole who use this tag is a retarded piece of..." etc. is pointing his finger at a very serious problem: incorrect tagging. Our civilization is in danger; a desperate need of a new last fm, where it´s only possible for one person to tag music has sprung out from the divine wisdom. Tagging is so important that most people should n´t do it. One planet, one responsible tagging master must be enough. I vote for Heaven Duff, because he knows more about the inner secrets of tagging than anyone else on earth. Hell Heaven Duff! Thy shall tag us into the glorious future!

I kinda like it because it can show you which bands are on tour often and how popular their concerts are. but i guess it would be better to rate them with a tag like "fantastic live band" or "bad concerts" or so... Oo but i think it's okay to use tags like this. but maybe last.fm needs a function for things like this - make it possible to have a virtual cd board and a virtual collection of whom you have seen live.. (sorry for my bad english - since i finished school i don't write/ talk anymore ^^° )

I almost wanted to delete my seen live tags, but since everyone's so whiny about it, I'm not gonna. :)

The tag is relevant to the person who uses it. There is no rule that a tag must reflect the music. An artist's nationality will get tagged often, but that doesn't necessarily seem relevant to the style of music they play (unless it's something traditional). And many bands protest being lumped into specific genres all the time, so does that make it irrelevant to tag a band 'punk' when many bands reject that label?

Every single fucking asshole who use this tag is a retarded piece of juicy shit. How is this fucking tag relevant? Tags are supposed to give informations to others about the music this artist plays and not that some people saw them live.

""seen live" is like "seen on DVD", "listened on radio", WTF!, who cares?!. " No, it's not. Not at all.

"Tags are like keywords, categories or labels that you can add to your music. They can help you organize your Library in cool new ways..." Therefore tags are subjective and for personal reference and can be used to denote anything.[2]
