Can someone actually explain in a coherent fashion why they dislike this tag? I don't really get into the whole tagging business, but i can't for the life of me figure why people are so militantly opposed to this one in particular.

I think almost everyone hates this tag. Well, everyone except the people who use it (obviously)

I agrees with neonsun, and think its hilarious that there's so much controversy over tags. I've been meaning to create 'mood' tags, but haven't done so. [haha, 'meaning to.'] [[if you don't get why that's funny, you're allowed to think i'm insane.]]

sometimes i'd love to SEE you LIVE, guys. i'd swear you would be more respectful in your opinionated core dumps. why ? face to face there is no shoutbox between us, just eyes to listen carefully and immediate response.

most people are 'visual animals'. we 'heard live' but unconsciously translate it to 'seen live'. nobody needs to go with the crowd -- but nearly everybody does. so we might be creative : 'dreamed of', 'seen dead', 'post-life' -- you get the picture ...

I think the the digital community should allow for evolution of music tags beyond the pure genre classification restricted by the id3 tags (the whole 'which genre tag is right for which band/album/song is a whole other discussion completely) and rather allow for personalization of media. I think of last.fm's tag system more like the one for gmail's rather than that of traditional id3 tagging, meaning one should be able to tag music according to ones own criteria, including 'mood' tagging and other social tags. What do you think - Is this too radical, or a sound thought?

Woah, we can post here now? Also, I like having a comprehensive list of the bands that I've seen live. People tag stuff with all kinds of stupid shit - this is one of the least stupid tags.

seen live is a personal tag used by Last.fm users to mark the bands they have seen perform live. Subscribers can listen to a radio station of their personal tags, allowing them to listen to a station comprised solely of artists they’ve seen perform ‘in the flesh’. ...I think that pretty much clears up why its a great tag. But lets complain about it some more!

Well, that's a great genre. It's a mixture of several styles of music, so everyone likes it. haha
