i like to keep a list of artists i have seen live and using this as a tag is an easy way to do so, plain and simple [2]

Who knew I'd click here and find such hostility? My goodness. I think it's a helpful tag for the individual using it, if maybe not so much for others. But, hey, "alternative" isn't exactly descriptive. Neither is "indie" or "pop" or "rock." Maybe it's just jealousy 'cuz we all go to lotsa concerts and you're stuck at home, drooling about live videos on YouTube. Just kidding.

Aren't tags supposed to describe the actual music? "Seen live" is not a quality of a song or an artist.

I don't mind using the tags Indie, or countries because they are useful to many people but this one is just retarded. [2]

I find this tag to be the most useful of all. Whoever started using it in the first place was smart.

What the fuck. There are tags much worse than this one, and calling it "retarded" shows you're missing the point. By using this tag, I can build up a list of artists I have seen live, any other user can check it out to have a quick overview (more useful than one's Events, you can't tell from those what exactly someone saw at, say, a huge festival) and you can form new acquaintances through those just as well as through similar charts etc. It's also interesting to see which artists the users of this site care to mention as having seen live the most. The high position of Muse on this list, for instance, ties in nicely with their reputation for being an amazing live act. Just my two cents.

" it is considered unusual to tag composers (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, etc.) because they are not the performers." ----- only Highlander can tag them anyway :P

Everyone, don't forget to tag artists that you've seen multiple times with "seen live again"!

Oh my, look at the huge amounts of 'zing' I appear to have facilitated. Get over it, all of you, lastfm is there for people to use as they wish. Christ on a bike... Anyway, just for the record, the last band I saw (Sunday) was The Sounds, and yes I tagged them with 'seen live'. Don't wet your pants.

Why is everyone stressing over this tag? It's useful to tag artists you've seen live because 1) it keeps a record, 2) you can listen to the radio of bands you've seen live 3) it's interesting to see which artists have a reputation for touring non-stop. It hardly ruins tag clouds, overstatement of the year.

"it is considered unusual to tag composers (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, etc.) because they are not the perfomers." Not even considering the fact that no one on Last.fm could be old enough to have seen those two guys alive anyway. :)

I never intended on using the "seen live" tag but now after seeing how pissy people have got about it, I'm going to go through my entire library and do just that. Obscure supporting acts too that I don't even listen to. Oh yeah.
